The Westminster School, Dubai hosted TEDxYouth talk on the 14th November 2019 on the theme Passion, Perseverance and Persistence. The event was well attended by Sir Christopher Stone, Chief Global Education Officer, GEMS MENASA, Ms. Amani Daya, Marketing and Enrolments Manager, and Mr. Michael Gernon, Chief Education Innovation Officer and other school dignitaries. Caroline Leon, a Dubai- based Australian mountain climber and fitness enthusiast, inspired the audience by speaking about her painful journey through 23 surgeries and 14 blood transfusions, that followed after her fall from a 7 metre high rock climbing wall. Her never say die spirit and persistence did not allow the fire of passion burning inside to extinguish.
After four years, she has not only been able to walk but also is the first person in the world to attempt to climb all the peaks in the Middle East and Arabian Peninsula.
The speakers left the audience bewildered in amazement at the variety of topics and a multidimensional approach to the theme.Four students namely Alston Bernard Dsouza, Warren Martin, Rosalyn Flory and Mohammad Jassim Abu baker expressed their opinion on the subject of passion.
Shabria Bint Saif and Omar Ghanem, TWS alumni questioned the concept of passion and success through their personal experiences.
Annora D’Souza, a young student impressed the guests with her musical skills on the piano and Fatiha Hayat, left the audience spellbound with her spoken word poetry on Passion!
It could be easily witnessed that the speaker and their experiences sparked conversations and inspired many young minds, which is the objective of TEDx- to inspire conversations and ignite minds to come together to improve and support local communities.
The event, indeed, a huge success and will return next year ,with a bigger platform and innovative ideas that might transform the world!
